Final Assessment Rubric
Atomic Shelf Video Production Academy — 100-Point Rubric
Passing score: 85/100 with zero critical defects.
Criterion 1: Book Accuracy and Source Fidelity (20 points)
| Points | Standard |
| 20 | Title, author, and cover are exactly correct. Every factual claim in VO and on-screen text traces to an approved source. No invented awards, reviews, sales figures, bestseller status, or credentials. Spoilers fully avoided. All restrictions respected. |
| 18–19 | Essentially perfect; one minor unverified claim that doesn't affect accuracy |
| 15–17 | One moderate accuracy issue (e.g., minor claim unverified, minor spoiler risk) |
| 10–14 | Two or more accuracy issues; some invented claims present |
| 0–9 | Critical accuracy defect: wrong title/author, invented stats, major spoiler, or distorted cover |
Critical failures (automatic fail regardless of score):
- Wrong title or author
- Invented bestseller status or awards
- Unverified time-sensitive claims or prices
- Spoiled ending or key plot points
- Distorted or substituted book cover
- Real person's likeness without permission
Criterion 2: Hook, Storytelling, and Audience Relevance (20 points)
| Points | Standard |
| 20 | Opening frame hooks within 0.5s. Clear, specific reader identity targeted. Narrative follows a coherent beat structure (hook → context → escalation → payoff → reveal → CTA). Payoff delivers insight or emotion. CTA is clear and singular. |
| 17–19 | Strong hook and story; minor pacing issue in one section |
| 14–16 | Hook present but not immediate; story mostly coherent; CTA clear |
| 10–13 | Weak hook; some narrative gaps; CTA somewhat unclear |
| 0–9 | No clear hook; narrative incoherent; CTA missing or conflicting |
Criterion 3: Visual Direction and B-Roll Quality (15 points)
| Points | Standard |
| 15 | Every scene serves a narrative function. Lighting, color, and atmosphere are consistent. Composition is strong with clear focal points. Foreground/midground/background depth created. Caption-safe zones preserved. No conspicuous AI artifacts. Shot variety is intentional. |
| 13–14 | Minor consistency or composition issue in one scene |
| 10–12 | One scene lacks clear narrative function; some consistency issues |
| 7–9 | Two+ scenes are decorative; visible artifacts; composition weak |
| 0–6 | Scenes lack purpose; heavy artifacts; no shot variety; unsafe compositions |
Criterion 4: Editing, Pacing, and Continuity (15 points)
| Points | Standard |
| 15 | Cuts serve narrative beats. Transitions are clean and purposeful. Pacing matches story tension. Vertical composition preserved throughout. Continuity maintained (lighting, characters, props). Opening frame works silently. |
| 13–14 | Minor pacing issue; one transition could be tighter |
| 10–12 | Some cuts don't serve the story; minor continuity break |
| 7–9 | Pacing inconsistent; continuity issues; some dead time |
| 0–6 | Cuts are arbitrary; pacing ruins the story; major continuity breaks |
Criterion 5: Captions, Sound, and Accessibility (10 points)
| Points | Standard |
| 10 | Captions are accurate, complete, readable (≥108px, 4.5:1 contrast), and timed correctly. Voice-over levels at -12 to -6 LUFS. Music 6dB+ below VO. Sound effects reinforce action. Video is fully understandable without sound. |
| 8–9 | Minor caption or audio issue (one timing error, slightly low contrast) |
| 6–7 | Multiple caption issues; audio balance needs work |
| 3–5 | Captions incomplete or inaccurate; audio major issues |
| 0–2 | No captions; audio unintelligible or severely imbalanced |
Criterion 6: CTA and Campaign Alignment (5 points)
| Points | Standard |
| 5 | CTA matches the campaign objective exactly. No unverified claims. CTA is on screen long enough to read. Single primary CTA. |
| 4 | Minor mismatch or slightly short duration |
| 3 | CTA doesn't perfectly match objective; minor claim issue |
| 2 | Multiple CTAs; some unverified claims |
| 0–1 | CTA contradicts objective; contains unverified claims |
Criterion 7: Technical Quality and Export Compliance (10 points)
| Points | Standard |
| 10 | 9:16 aspect ratio (1080×1920). MP4/H.264. 30fps. No black bars or distortion. No watermark. Correct filenames. Platform versions present. |
| 9 | One minor technical issue (e.g., 29fps instead of 30) |
| 7–8 | Minor compliance issue (one platform version missing) |
| 4–6 | Multiple technical defects (wrong resolution, watermark present) |
| 0–3 | Critical technical failure (wrong format, missing export) |
Critical failures (automatic fail regardless of score):
- Unintended watermark on final export
- Incorrect aspect ratio or resolution
- Missing required platform version
Criterion 8: Asset Organization and Documentation (5 points)
| Points | Standard |
| 5 | Complete 10-folder structure. All filenames follow convention. Version tracking present. Rejected takes documented. Asset inventory complete. Another editor could continue without verbal instructions. |
| 4 | One missing folder or minor naming inconsistency |
| 3 | Some folders missing; version tracking incomplete |
| 2 | Significant organizational gaps; unclear naming |
| 0–1 | No organization; another editor cannot continue |

Pass/Fail Rules
- Minimum score: 85/100
- Critical defects: Must be zero — a video with any critical accuracy, licensing, privacy, or technical defect does not pass regardless of numerical score
- Resubmission: If the score is ≥85 but critical defects exist, the editor has 24 hours to correct and resubmit
- Final decision: Pass (≥85 + zero critical defects) / Fail (must correct + resubmit)
