Module 10 — Book Cover Integration and Product Presentation
Category: Finishing | Duration: ~60 min | Prerequisites: Module 06
Learning Objective
By the end of this module, you will be able to source the approved cover file, maintain its original proportions and legibility, choose the right moment for the cover reveal, create natural transitions from story to book, and produce three distinct cover-reveal treatments — selecting the one that best fits the campaign without distorting the cover, substituting AI-generated versions, or adding unsupported endorsements.
1. Principle: The Book Is the Product
The cover is not a decorative element — it is the product. Every video must make the book unmistakable without turning the video into a static advertisement.
Sourcing the Approved Cover
- Only use the cover provided in the campaign brief's
02_Source-Metadata/folder - Verify it's the current edition — check publication date and ISBN
- Do NOT generate or reconstruct a cover in TikTok Symphony
- Do NOT use a cover from Amazon's listing unless explicitly approved (resolution and branding issues)
- Save the original file with the filename:
BOOKSLUG_COVER_APPROVED.png
Maintaining Original Proportions
Rule: Never stretch, squish, crop through, or recolor the cover.
- Keep the aspect ratio locked — if you scale, scale uniformly
- If the cover is square, position it appropriately in the 9:16 frame with negative space
- Never add effects that obscure the title or author
- Never overlay generated text on top of cover text
- Keep cover text readable — minimum 6% frame height for the title
Choosing the Right Moment
The cover reveal should feel natural, not forced. Consider these timing strategies:
| Strategy | Best for | Duration on screen |
|---|---|---|
| Late reveal (S05) | Storytelling-first concepts | 2–3 seconds |
| Early reveal (S01) | Recognition-first concepts | 1–2 seconds |
| Mid-point pivot | Twist or transition concepts | 1.5–2 seconds |
| End card | CTA-focused concepts | 2–3 seconds |
The book cover may appear in the opening when that is creatively stronger. The rule is narrative coherence, not fixed placement.
Distinguishing Visual Metaphor from Literal Depiction
| Metaphor (OK) | Literal depiction (avoid) |
|---|---|
| A storm representing the book's conflict | Showing the actual storm scene from the book |
| A key representing unlocking the story | Showing the literal key from the book |
| A door representing new possibilities | Showing the exact door from a scene |
| Water ripples representing consequences | Showing literal water from a specific event |
Rule: AI-generated scenes illustrate the emotion or concept, not literal events from the book's plot. The cover provides the literal product identification.
2. Visual Demonstration
Professional Example — "The Storm" (_asirensings_)
Cover reveal treatment: Late reveal with environmental context
Timeline: 0.0–6.0s Storm-tossed ship (establishes mood) 6.0–7.0s Transition: storm settles, lightning fades 7.0–9.0s Book cover appears against calm sea background 9.0–10.0s CTA: "Free with KU" + cover bottom-right
Why it works:
- The cover reveal is earned by the story (storm → calm)
- The cover sits against a genre-appropriate environment (sea)
- Proportions maintained, text readable
- No distortion, no effects obscuring the cover
- CTA is clean and secondary
Three Cover-Reveal Treatments
Treatment 1: Clean Editorial Reveal
- Cover fades in against a neutral background
- Simple, professional
- Best for: Nonfiction, business titles
Treatment 2: Cover Against Genre Environment
- Cover placed in a scene-appropriate setting
- For paramedic: cover against paramedic equipment background
- For _asirensings_: cover against calm sea
- Best for: Genre fiction, atmospheric books
Treatment 3: Close-Up Reveal
- Cover fills 60% of frame, slight push-in
- Foreground element (hand, water droplet) interacts
- Best for: Romance, thriller, high-emotion concepts
Weak Example — Distorted Cover
Cover stretched to fill the entire frame vertically. Text unreadable. Title cut off on the sides. Orange filter applied to match brand palette. Generic "READ NOW" overlay on top.
Why it fails:
- Distorted proportions
- Unreadable text
- Brand over book
- Added endorsement ("READ NOW")
- Cover is not recognizable
3. Step-by-Step Workflow
Source and Verify
- Locate the approved cover in
02_Source-Metadata/ - Verify the title and author match the brief
- Check resolution — minimum 1080px on the long side
- Save as
BOOKSLUG_COVER_APPROVED.png(or .jpg)
Plan the Reveal
- Review your storyboard — where does the cover go?
- Choose a treatment from the three above
- Note the transition — how does the story flow to the cover?
- Plan the background — what sits behind the cover?
Implement in the Editor
- Import the cover as a media asset
- Scale uniformly — never stretch
- Position in the 9:16 frame — leave 15% margins
- Add a transition — fade, slide, or static
- Verify text readability — step back and check
- Add the CTA — small, secondary, on-brand
Quality Checks
- [ ] Cover proportions maintained (no stretch)
- [ ] Title and author readable (≥108px height minimum)
- [ ] No filter or color adjustment on the cover
- [ ] No text overlay on cover graphics
- [ ] Cover text not obscured by background
- [ ] CTA is secondary, not competing with cover
- [ ] Transition from story to cover is natural
4. Common Mistakes and Corrections
| Mistake | Correction |
|---|---|
| Stretching the cover to fit frame | Scale uniformly, use negative space |
| Generating a cover in Symphony | Never generate covers; use the approved file |
| Adding text over cover graphics | Keep cover text clean; put CTA elsewhere |
| Forcing early reveal when late works | Match reveal timing to narrative flow |
| Distorting with effects | Use clean transitions only |
| Inventing endorsements/awards | Only show what the brief approves |
| Making cover unreadable | Ensure title is ≥108px, high contrast |
| Substituting AI cover for real cover | Always use the approved official cover |
5. Hands-On Exercise
Using the book assets/books/avoid-construction-disputes.md, produce three cover-reveal treatments:
- Treatment A — Clean Editorial Reveal
- Treatment B — Environmental Integration (construction site background)
- Treatment C — Close-Up Reveal (hero cover with subtle interaction)
For each treatment, document:
- Timing in the timeline (when does the cover appear?)
- Duration on screen
- Background/environment
- Transition from the story
- How proportions are maintained
- How text readability is ensured
- Where the CTA sits
Then select the one that best fits the campaign angle you chose in Module 03.
Note: If you cannot access the editing tool, describe the treatments visually and explain your selection. The skill being tested is judgment of appropriate cover presentation.
6. Assessment
Scored assessment (35 points total):
| Criterion | Points |
|---|---|
| Three treatments described in detail | 9 (3 per treatment) |
| Proportions maintained in all treatments | 5 |
| Text readability ensured in all treatments | 5 |
| Transitions are natural, not forced | 5 |
| CTA placement is secondary in all treatments | 5 |
| Selection rationale matches the campaign angle | 5 |
| No invented endorsements or claims | 5 |
| No AI-generated cover substitution | 1 |
| Total | 35 |
Pass threshold: 30/35
Submission Requirement: Submit the three cover-reveal treatment descriptions, the selection rationale, and a screenshot or detailed description of the chosen treatment.
