Module 13 — Quality Assurance and Professional Delivery

Category: Professional Delivery | Duration: ~60 min | Prerequisites: Module 12

Learning Objective

By the end of this module, you will be able to execute a formal four-gate quality review process (Accuracy, Creative Quality, Technical Quality, Delivery), audit a deliberately flawed video for defects, correct all critical errors, and resubmit for approval. You will understand that a video that looks attractive but misrepresents the book does not pass — nor does a factually accurate video that is technically defective.

1. Principle: Review the Export, Not Just the Timeline

Rule: Require a complete playback review of the exported file, not just a review of the editing timeline.

The exported MP4 is what the viewer sees. The timeline is what you see in the editor. They can differ — compression artifacts, caption burn-in, audio mixing, and export settings only fully resolve in the exported file.

The Four-Gate Review Process

Every video passes through four gates in order. No gate passes until the previous gate passes. Critical defects in any gate must be corrected regardless of score.

Gate A: Accuracy → Gate B: Creative Quality → Gate C: Technical Quality → Gate D: Delivery

Gate A — Accuracy (The Truth Gate)

A video that misrepresents the book does not pass.

CheckCritical
Correct title and author✓
Correct cover (official file)✓
Faithful representation of the book✓
Every factual claim traceable to source✓
No accidental spoilers✓
No invented reviews, credentials, awards✓
No invented bestseller status✓
No fabricated statistics✓
Approved promotional details present✓
Approved destination links present✓
Spoiler restrictions respected✓
Claim restrictions respected✓
Character depiction restrictions respected✓
Price/dates verified current✓

Gate A fails if any critical check is failed.

Gate B — Creative Quality (The Story Gate)

CheckCritical
Strong opening frame (0–0.5s)
Clear audience and hook
Coherent narrative✓
Appropriate pacing
Consistent visual style
Purposeful B-roll (no decoration)
Satisfying payoff✓
Clear CTA✓
Matches storyboard

Gate B fails if narrative coherence or CTA clarity is missing.

Gate C — Technical Quality (The Craft Gate)

CheckCritical
Correct 9:16 aspect ratio (1080×1920)✓
No unintended black bars or distortion✓
Captions readable (size, contrast)✓
No clipping or overlapping text✓
No conspicuous AI artifacts
Clean transitions
Balanced audio✓
No music competing with narration✓
Correct export format/settings✓
No unintended watermark✓

Gate C fails if the video is unwatchable or inaccessible.

Gate D — Delivery (The Handoff Gate)

CheckCritical
Correct filenames✓
Correct output location✓
Project file/source preserved
Final export present and playable✓
Required captions file included
Thumbnail included (if required)
Platform versions included
Reviewer comments resolved✓
Approval status documented✓

Gate D fails if the deliverable is incomplete.

2. Visual Demonstration

Professional Example — Complete QA Pass

A 30-second video for _asirensings_:

  • Gate A: Title "A Siren Sings" correct. Cover is the official KDP file. No invented claims. CTA: "Free with Kindle Unlimited." Verified current.
  • Gate B: Opens with storm footage (hook). Narrative flows from storm to calm to cover. CTA is clear. Matches storyboard exactly.
  • Gate C: 1080×1920, 30fps. Captions readable, no overlap. Audio: VO at -9 LUFS, music at -16 LUFS. No watermarks. No AI artifacts on the cover.
  • Gate D: Filename correct. Exported to 09_Exports/. Project file in 08_Editing-Project/. Cover reveal noted in review comments.

Result: PASS — all gates clear.

Weak Example — Failed QA

A 25-second video for crossingtheline:

  • Gate A: Title says "Crossing the Border" (wrong). Price says "$4.99" but metadata says $9.99. No link to Amazon.
  • Gate B: Opening is a text card ("Travel Tips"). No coherent narrative — shots jump randomly. CTA says "Buy now!" (hard sell for discovery objective).
  • Gate C: 720×1280 (too low). Captions overlap the bottom text. Music is louder than VO. Watermark visible in corner.
  • Gate D: File saved as video_final.mp4 (wrong naming). No project file saved.

Result: FAIL — Gates A, B, C, and D all failed. Multiple critical defects.

3. Step-by-Step Workflow

1. Gate A — Accuracy Review

  1. Read the campaign brief alongside the video
  2. Check the title and author — pause on the cover reveal
  3. Verify the cover — is it the approved file?
  4. Check every factual claim — VO and on-screen text
  5. Cross-reference each claim with the Source Fact-Check Sheet (Module 02)
  6. Check spoiler restrictions — did you reveal something you shouldn't?
  7. Check claim restrictions — no invented statistics, reviews, or endorsements
  8. Record findings — use the QA Checklist

2. Gate B — Creative Quality Review

  1. Play the exported video with sound off first
  2. Check the opening frame — does it hook without audio?
  3. Follow the narrative — does each beat lead to the next?
  4. Check the payoff — does the insight or emotion land?
  5. Check the CTA — is it clear and singular?
  6. Compare to storyboard — did the final match the plan?
  7. Note any creative gaps — where does the story lose momentum?

3. Gate C — Technical Quality Review

  1. Check aspect ratio — 1080×1920, 9:16
  2. Check for black bars — none should be present
  3. Play at full speed — verify caption readability
  4. Check caption timing — each stays long enough
  5. Listen on speakers — verify audio balance
  6. Listen on headphones — check spatial placement
  7. Watch for AI artifacts — especially around hands, text, cover
  8. Check for watermarks — none should be visible
  9. Verify transitions — clean, not decorative

4. Gate D — Delivery Review

  1. Verify filename matches the convention
  2. Verify output location is correct
  3. Verify project file is saved and accessible
  4. Verify captions file is included (if required)
  5. Verify platform versions are named correctly
  6. Resolve all reviewer comments
  7. Document approval status

5. Resubmission Protocol

If any gate fails:

  1. Document every defect with a timestamp
  2. Categorize as critical or non-critical
  3. Correct all critical defects before re-review
  4. Re-export and re-review all four gates
  5. Submit a correction report with changes made

4. Common Mistakes and Corrections

MistakeCorrection
Reviewing timeline, not exportAlways review the exported file
Skipping Gate A (accuracy)Accuracy is non-negotiable
Missing watermark in reviewCheck corners and edges carefully
Caption timing too fastMinimum 1.5s per caption
CTA unclear or multipleSingle, clear, objective-aligned
Wrong filenamesUse the naming convention exactly
No project file savedSave before exporting
Reviewer comments not resolvedAddress every comment

5. Hands-On Exercise

Audit a Deliberately Flawed Video

You are provided with a QA review scenario. A video has been submitted with the following defects:

Defects to find:

  1. Title card says "Avoid Construction Disputes" but the book is "Crossing the Line" (wrong title)
  2. Cover shown is a blurry Amazon screenshot, not the approved file
  3. CTA says "50% OFF — TODAY ONLY!" (time-sensitive, unverified)
  4. Captions overlap the bottom text in scenes 3–4
  5. Music volume is 3dB louder than the voice-over
  6. Watermark visible in top-right corner
  7. Filename is final_video_v3.mp4 (not following convention)
  8. No project file saved to 08_Editing-Project/
  9. Aspect ratio is 1080×1080 (square, not 9:16)
  10. Reviewer comment from last round says "Fix the CTA" but it wasn't addressed

Your Task

  1. Record all defects using the QA Checklist
  2. Categorize each as Gate A/B/C/D and critical/non-critical
  3. Document the correction for each
  4. Complete the resubmission

6. Assessment

Scored assessment (40 points total):

CriterionPoints
All 10 defects identified10 (1 per defect)
Correct gate assigned to each defect10 (1 per defect)
Critical vs. non-critical classification5
Correction documented for each defect10
Resubmission protocol followed5
Total40

Pass threshold: 34/40

Submission Requirement: Submit the completed QA Checklist with all 10 defects identified, categorized, and corrected. The resubmitted video (or detailed correction plan) must have zero critical defects.

7. Factual Verification and Hallucination Prevention

No hallucinated, misleading, or irrelevant video may reach an author. The final footage and narration must be checked against the master brief and available authoritative source material.

Mandatory Factual Verification Process

Verify, as applicable:

  • Book title and author.
  • Cover artwork.
  • Characters, appearances, and relationships.
  • Settings, historical details, and plot claims.
  • Quotes and text displayed on screen.
  • Genre, audience, and promised reader benefits.
  • Calls to action and destination links.

Unsupported Details

  • Do not invent story events.
  • Do not represent AI-generated interpretations as actual scenes from the book.
  • When a detail is not supported by the source, remove it or use a clearly fictionalized visual that does not make a false factual claim.
  • Any materially misleading, unverified, distorted, or irrelevant video must be rejected and corrected before author delivery.

Deliberately Faulty Example: Voiceover Does Not Match Visual

This is a voiceover that does not match the generated visual. A 10-second video for A Siren Sings uses attractive storm footage while the voiceover says, "The heroine sacrifices herself to save the lighthouse keeper." The approved source synopsis does not contain that event, and the footage is generic ocean imagery.

Detection and rejection:

  1. Compare the voiceover to the master brief and approved synopsis.
  2. Mark the unsupported plot claim as a Gate A critical defect.
  3. Mark the generic visual as a Gate B/C defect because it does not support the narration.
  4. Set status to FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED.
  5. Correction: rewrite the voiceover to a supported claim or use a clearly fictionalized visual that makes no factual claim; replace unusable footage within the correction reserve.
  6. Re-run all release checks before author delivery.

8. Mandatory QA and Release Gate

A video is not approved merely because it generated successfully. Every video must pass all checks before it is marked ready for author delivery.

Use explicit statuses only: PENDING, FAILED, CORRECTION_REQUIRED, or PASSED.

#CheckStatus values
1Correct book and approved source informationPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED
2Correct scene count: one preferred, two maximumPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED
3Correct 10-second final scene durationPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED
4Correct voiceover text and 10-second audio durationPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED
5Visuals demonstrably relevant to the narrationPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED
6Appropriate voice selected and pronunciation reviewedPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED
7Book cover accurate and not materially distortedPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED
8No unintended branding, interface debris, or hallucinated textPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED
9No unsupported plot claims or materially misleading imageryPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED
10Successful final export, with the entire rendered video watchedPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED
11Approved correction notes and final statusPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED
12Explicit QA approval before deliveryPENDING / FAILED / CORRECTION_REQUIRED / PASSED

Rule: A failed or unchecked video must never be represented as author-ready. If a check cannot be completed automatically, provide a human review step. Do not mark it passed just because a file exists.
